A joint venture with Air Asia Berhad, AirAsia India is an Indo-Malaysian low cost carrier of Asia. The airline is headquartered in Chennai, India and holds 49% of the airline company. Air Asia India started its operations on 12th June 2014 with Bangalore as its main hub. It is the first overseas airline that has established a subsidiary in India. Initially, the airline was having plans to start operations in different tier 2 and tier 3 cities with Chennai International Airport as its key operating base. However, it changed its base to Bangalore, operating its first flight from Bangalore to Goa. Its secondary hub is located at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The prologue of AirAsia has caused another price war among airlines, which is going to increase air traffic and several consolidations in the Indian aviation industry.

They can check-in through web in AirAsia flights between 14 days and 1 hour prior to the scheduled departure of the flight. For AirAsia X flights, online check-in facility is available from 14 days to 4 hours prior to the departure.
